Breakthrough Science Society, Ernakulam chapter organized a Learning through experiments program at Vocational Higher Secondary School, Irumbanam on Dec 2, 2022 as part of the Science Learning Centre activity in the district. The program was inaugurated by the municipal councilor, Mr Roy Thiruvankulam. Senior teacher Mr Reni K presided. Mr Harikumar K S, the district president of BSS spoke on the objectives of the program. The school principal, Smt Jemi Jacob and Mr Sajeev Prabhakar also addressed the students. Mr Sajeevkumar PP conducted the experiment demonstration. The experiment was an interesting and colorful one commonly known as the elephant toothpaste experiment to demonstrate the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide using catalysts such as Potassium permanganate, Manganese dioxide etc. Students interacted actively and asked several questions. The students were split into groups and each group performed the experiment on their own. About 40 students of class 8 and 9 and 4 teachers participated in the program.
A similar program was conducted in Govt High School, Thiruvankulam on Dec 7, 2022. Mr Sajeevkumar, Mr Harikumar, Mr Thankachan PC and Ms Lasitha conducted the program. About 30 students of class 8 and 9 participated in the program.
