Workshop on the ‘Learning Science through Experiments’
BSS UP Chapter organised a Workshop on the ‘Learning Science through Experiments’ at Lucknow on June 29, 2025. The programme began with a display of fish & dinosaur-egg fossils by Prof. Ashok Sahni (Former VC, Punjab University, Chandigarh). This was followed by presentations of Dr. C M Nautiyal (Former Scientist-in-Charge of C-14 Lab of BSIP Lucknow and State President, UP BSS), Dr. Aniruddha Sane & Dr. Vidhu A Sane (both Chief Scientists at NBRI Lucknow), Dr. Santosh Shah & Dr. Nivedita Mehrotra Shah (both Scientists at BSIP) and Ms. Anuradha. Prof. Ashok Sahni and Drs Aniruddha Sane and Vidhu Sane mesmerized the children with their fabulous presentations. Prof. Sahni demonstrated through a dinosaur egg shell, its cross sections and the coprolite containing what a hungry dinosaur enjoyed more than a hundred million years ago when the world was probably one. Dr. Santosh Shah and Dr. Nivedita Mehrotra introduced tree ring dating & stone layer dating through specimens and explained the approach to Palaeo-Climate studies. Dr. CM Nautiyal and Ms. Anuradha presented some interesting Physics- experiments, which several children may try later at home. Dr. Aniruddha and Dr. Vidhu demonstrated some Biological and Physical Experiments. It felt good to see the kids enjoying the demonstrations of specimens and the explanations of experiments. The whole Workshop was graced by the presence of Dr. P V Sane (a Bhatnagar-Awardee Scientist and Ex-Director of NBRI Lucknow) and Prof. Neera Sahni (Formerly professor at Physics Dept. Punjab University). Prof. Bharati Trivedi (Former HoD, Electronics, Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET), Lucknow also graced the event. The students up to 9th standard enjoyed the demos and interacted enthusiastically. Some children were accompanied by their guardians.
